Athlete of the Month of January

Years at Five Forks Athletics: 5

So many of the good things in my life stem from my decision to join this gym.

WHEN DID YOU START AT FIVE FORKS ATHLETICS?

“I started FFA in March of 2018! I had just moved back home after being away for 6 years.

“WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WORKOUT?

“Anything that involves heavier barbell cycling. So named workouts like Grace and Isabel are favorites of mine.”TYPE OF

EXERCISES WERE YOU DOING BEFORE FIVE FORKS ATHLETICS?

“Crossfit! I started CrossFit when I was in my junior year at Wellesley College, an all-girls school outside of Boston, Massachusetts. I needed to lose about fifteen pounds, and I found a Groupon for an Intro to Crossfit class. Also being that I went to an all-girls school, I hadn’t seen a boy in approximately 3 years and thought it would be a good opportunity to learn how to talk to the opposite sex again.”

WHAT ARE YOUR HEALTH AND FITNESS GOALS AND HAVE YOU ACHIEVED ANY OF THOSE GOALS?

“My main goal this past year was finishing my first marathon while also doing Crossfit 6 times per week, not losing any strength, and also staying 100% vegan. I completed the marathon in August, and I actually PR-ed my snatch and jerk while running upwards of 50 miles per week. It was a ton of work, but I’m really proud of my effort. As far as future goals, I’m working towards getting my first bar muscle-up.”

HAS FIVE FORKS ATHLETICS AFFECTED YOUR LIFE OUTSIDE THE GYM?

“It’s affected every aspect of my life. Not just fitness-wise. Without FFA I would not have found Josh, nor would I have found so many friends that I consider family. So many of the good things in my life stem from my decision to join this gym. If you met me in 2018, I’m sure you can attest to me being a bit more anxious (And by a bit, I mean a lot), and I feel in these past 4 years, I’ve become a different, much more confident person because of the gym and the people I have met here.”

DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER SPECIAL MEMORIES OR ACHIEVEMENTS DURING YOUR TIME HERE?

“Hands-down my most important achievement at the gym and in my personal life was convincing the eternal bachelor Josh Green to date me. 100% more difficult than training for a marathon. As far as memories go, planning for Ashley’s birthday surprise was definitely a favorite of mine. Lastly, while this is not a particularly fun memory, I’ll always remember Melissa giving me over 17 stitches in the Coach’s Office after I busted my shins down to the bone on a 24 inch box. Only at this gym can you get injured and then have your friend stitch you up almost immediately.”
