Athlete of the Month of July

Years at Five Forks Athletics:

We are so proud of Yogi and his determination even in the face of adversity!

When did you start at FFA?

“June 2018, but I have not  been consistent due to few unfavorable circumstances except past 1 year.”

What is your favorite workout?

“Partner workouts, especially one partner working at a time. I love taking small breaks then going as hard as possible during my turn. It also helps to get to know other FFA members. My favorite exercise is anything with burpees, bike or running.  They challenge me the most and I love challenges.”

What type of exercise were you doing before FFA?

“I was working out at a local gym for a while but due to lack of accountability and culture of the place I was not consistent and never achieved any goals.”What are your health and fitness goals and have you achieved any of those goals?  How is it going so far?

I want to be fit like our coaches they are my role models,I am not there yet but I am also a work in progress.

Has Five Forks Athletics affected your life outside the gym?

“I will have to write an essay on this, I don’t think everyone knows that I am in a recovery from alcohol addiction. FFA is a foundation of my recovery. Without FFA I would not have been able to survive the disease of addiction. It has helped me tremendously to start my day with positivity and provided me the focus I needed. This place also helped my entire family to become health conscious.  My wife, kids and my parents are also getting healthier because of our gym.”

Do you have any other special memories/achievements during your time here?

“I have tons of memories, the one I remember form our old location was that every-time Jonathan made me run or do 10 burpees I hated him so much and now I thank him every day.  My other special memory was Josh Green twisting my arm to join the place and helping me to get to know people at FFA at the very beginning.  My first partner workout with Josh and him pushing me to finish 100 burpees was a very special moment.  Every-time people have helped me to get through my sets or pushed me to finish workouts are priceless. My biggest achievement was to finish MURPH 2022 with 100 pull-ups. I was not able to do a single pull-up until this year so doing 100 of them and finishing MURPH was a special achievement. Running 2 miles during MURPH was very special for me.   In 2017 medical reports predicted that I wouldn’t be able to walk again, not only was I able to walk but run 2 miles and finish MURPH!  It was like landing on the moon for me.”
